Our School. Our Community.
The Michigan Islamic School Initiative (MISI) has been established to serve as a charitable organization to acquire funding and support to the Michigan Islamic Academy, a 501(c)(3) Michigan religious private school, to assist in the educational and skill development needs of children and young adults.
This organization was established in 2024 in order to diversify funding sources for MIA as it continues to grow and serve the Southeast Michigan Islamic School community.

About MIA
Michigan Islamic Academy (MIA) is a full-time school located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, forty-five minutes west of Detroit and directly across from the University of Michigan’s North Campus. In addition to being a state-approved nonpublic school through the Michigan Board of Education, MIA is also proud to be one of the few Cognia Accredited Islamic schools in Michigan.
MIA was founded in 1985 with humble beginnings of 7 grades in four classrooms and 10 teachers. Since then, the school has been growing in both numbers and facilities, having expanded to 23 classrooms, 60 teachers and staff and over 320 students in Pre-K to 12th grade in the academic year 2023-2024.
Help Us Grow
With a current waitlist of over 130 students, it has become more important than ever for us to expand our facilities. Growing our campus and investing in expanding our programming will help to ensure that quality Islamic education is accessible to all youth in our Muslim community, while also helping to maintain an excellent learning environment for our current students.
The Michigan Islamic School Initiative (MISI) is focused on raising funds to invest and expand the MIA program to more families in Southeast Michigan.
